In this study, super-hydrophobic nanocellulose films were prepared by non-toxic octadecylamine/polydopamine system. Octadecylamine is a kind of low surface energy material, which is used to provide hydrophobic alkyl long chain. The adhesive substance polydopamine was produced by dopamine in alkaline conditions, which can not only reinforce the hydrophobic long chain, but also increase the surface roughness of nanocellulose. The effects of reagent concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time on hydrophobicity were investigated. The results show that, under the mass ratio of nanocellulose to octadecylamine was 1:1, and the reaction condition was 60ºC for 4h, the contact angle of the obtained composite membrane reaches 168.2º. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images reveal that the modified nanocellulose has a smaller particle size and more uniform distribution, which is effective to improve the hydrophobicity of nanocellulose. The green preparation of superhydrophobic films with high temperature resistance and friction resistance was realized, which contributed to the high-value utilization of nanocellulose.
