Analytical model based fault diagnosis methods of complex system: a review

With the development of modern science and technology, major equipment involved in various fields, such as aviation, aerospace, vehicles, ships, and communications, have become increasingly complex and expensive. Due to the complicated and varied operation environments, the performance and reliability of complicated system inevitably degrade, which can lead to unexpected failures. The unexpected failures of complicated system will often result in economic losses or even casualties. It is particularly important to improve the safety, reliability and economy of complicated system. To this end, prognosis and health management (PHM) technology was proposed and has become a research hotspot. As an important method of PHM, analytical model based fault diagnosis method has been widely used to ensure the safe and reliable operation of complicated system. This paper mainly describes the basic concept, role and application fields of analytical model based fault diagnosis methods, analyzes the research status of several main technologies, and looks forward to the future development trend.
