2-D DOA Estimation with Modified Parallel Coprime Linear Subarrays Using ESPRIT Algorithm and Least Squares

Estimation of two dimensional (2-D) direction of arrival (DOA) is a key problem in array signal processing with numerous applications. In this paper, we propose a technique for 2-D DOA estimation with a modified parallel coprime linear subarrays
using Estimation of Signal Parameters using Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT) algorithm and Least Squares (LS). We decompose the 2-D DOA estimation problem into two one dimensional (1-D) DOA estimation problems by exploiting the virtual difference co-array obtained by vectorizing the cross-covariance matrix of measured sub-array data. In the proposed technique, azimuth and elevation DOAs are estimated and automatically paired. We verify the performance of the proposed method via numerical experiments.
