Existing millimeter wave (mmWave) systems must take advantage of large antenna arrays to make wavelength reduction possible against path losses and beamforming gains. To solve the above problem and improve the spectral efficiency, double spatially sparse processing is proposed in this paper. One sparse is the spatially sparse precoding with orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) reconstruction method in mmWave hybrid beamforming, which can reduce the data rate; The other sparse is the sparse array generated by augmented nested array at transmitter to greatly decrease the array elements. Simulation results show that this double sparse processing has better spectral efficiency than linear array MIMO hybrid beamforming.
