In an urban study context, urban planning has increasingly emphasized the concern for objective facts and public participation, and city planners have also increased their focus on urban scenario planning to explore the development possibilities of various aspects of an evolving city. Different from the traditional land use structure analysis, this paper will implicate a dynamic land use model planning support system (PSS) and combine the concept of urban scenario planning to study several city development modes in one of Chinese rapidly growing cities - Nanjing. Being a useful tool for encoding spatial structures, the dynamic land use model can help generate quantitative analysis information to predict urban scenarios for sustainable growth. In general, this paper will explore the urban spatial and dynamic patterns of urban land use and test “what-if scenarios” based on the theoretical guidance of local planning strategies and policies.
