Accurately identifying the boundaries of the core areas in the current urban agglomeration construction process is the basis for researching urban agglomerations. This paper proposes a new extraction idea: using spatial syntax to analyze the urban group road network, and then integrate the four analysis indicators obtained into the new indicator “city degree”, and propose the “city degree” contour and “city group cluster degree” curve, finally find the optimal threshold by mathematical calculation to extract the core area boundary, and point out the internal extension direction of the future urban agglomeration. The experimental results show that the method has wide a data source, large application range, and strong reliability. The new method proposed in the paper is expected to provide a new way of thinking and method for defining the core boundaries of cities and urban agglomerations.
