The operation reliability of distribution system, which is adjacent to users, has a direct impact on power use. After power failure in distribution system, it is necessary to locate fault as accurately as possible, in order to handle it quickly and shorten users’ outage time. At present, with continuous improvement of distribution automation, abundant information can be transmitted to control center in real or quasi-real time, which makes it possible to accurately locate fault in distribution system by comprehensively using all kinds of collected information. This paper presents a fault precise location method for distribution system based on recorded wave information. The over-current or protection-act information collected by monitoring terminals is firstly used to locate fault section. Secondly, based on recorded electrical wave information, fault precise location in fault section can be achieved through time standard calibration and data handling, which will improve fault processing speed and shorten blackout time for users.
