Study on Very High Cycle Fatigue Properties of Centrifugal Compressor Impeller Blades

Centrifugal compressor is one of the core devices in the energy and chemical industry, which is generally used for transporting some of the gases. In practice, it has to endure cyclic loading for above 10 million times and easily reaches the VHCF (very high cycle fatigue) regime. VHCF experiment of FV520B-Ⅰ used for manufacturing compressor impeller was performed on Shimadzu USF-2000 fatigue machine. The results show that S-N curve has distinct step-wise characteristic corresponding to the specimen data lines initiated from surface defects and internal inclusions. SIFs (stress intensity factor) on the edge of featured areas (inclusions, GBF areas and fish-eye areas) exert a great influence on the formation of GBF and fatigue life. Lifetime formulas fitted by Paris equation of two different internal defects agree well with the experiment data, and using Deborah factor to briefly describe the relationship of competition among different internal defects.
