With the rapid growth of renewable energy installed capacity, China's energy structure has undergone crucial changes. At the current power supply mode, the peak-to-valley difference of power load caused by the change in demand for electricity in various industries has increased, and higher requirements for peak shaving of units have been put forward. In 2017, the installation capacity of coal-fired power plant accounted for 62.24% in China, and power generation of that accounted for 70.92%. More than half of the share are forced to undertake a large proportion of peaking tasks. Especially in the north China, air-cooled units will become the mainstay of peaking. In recent years, the state has issued a number of power system reform documents. Under the background of the new normal of the electric market, flexibility requirement, deep peaking involvement and coal price improvement are most important factors affecting the revenue of coal-fired power plants. The operational economy of the peaking units directly affects the economics of the entire power grid. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to investigate the economics of coal-fired units participating in peak shaving. In this paper, an indirect air cooling unit in China is selected as the research object. According to the operation status of the unit, the sliding window data mining method is applied to screen the steady-state data of the monitoring data. Then, the real-time electricity cost of the unit is predicted and the overall benefits of the unit is further measured, which providing support for the crew to participate in the power auxiliary service market.
