Theoretical calculation and numerical simulation research of shell and tube heat exchanger

Heat-exchanger is one of the most important components in the modern industry. The performance of the heat-exchanger decides the operating conditions of the whole system. So the performance improvement of a heat-exchanger becomes the key point during its design process. This paper have studied the performance of a heat-exchanger with the method of theoretical analysis and with the help of the commercial software MATLAN 7.0 and FLUENT 6.0.
This paper studied the computational method of the heat-exchanger’s performance and preliminarily completed the development of the performance checking program for the shell-and-tube heat exchanger. The calculation model for the shell-and-tube heat transfer were established, which is based on the analysis of the calculation method for heat transfer. The pressure drop calculation model has established, which is based on the study of the pressure drop calculation method for the shell side and tube side. Besides, the heat exchanger checking program was written. The program can be used for the engineering check calculation of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger, which has a certain value of the engineering.
In order to study the influence on the different heights of the cut and distance of baffle in shell-and-tube heat exchangers. A 3-D numerical simulation model has established with the help of the FLUENT 6.0. the flow filed and temperature filed has showed intuitively.
