Simulated fireside corrosion behavior of a solid solution strengthening Ni-Cr-Fe-W-based superalloy at 700 癈

Simulated fireside corrosion behavior of a new type Ni-Cr-Fe-W-based superalloy was investigated at 700 癈. The weighing method, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectrometer) and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) analyses were employed to understand the corrosion kinetics, morphologies, compositions and phases of the corrosion products, respectively. The results indicated that the mass gain of the Ni-Cr-Fe-W superalloy was an approximately stable up to 500 h. A dense and integrity oxide scale with complex microstructure formed on the top surface of Ni-Cr-Fe-W superalloy identified as Fe-Cr spinel ((Fe,Cr)xOy), Cr2O3 and Al2O3. Underneath the scale was a chromium depleted zone with numerous molybdenum sulfide distributed in the grain boundary. The corrosion mechanism of Ni-Cr-Fe-W superalloy was also discussed based on the experimental results.
