Repetitive Operation of Compact High Voltage Pulsed Accelerator based on Comb-type Forming Line

A compact high-voltage pulsed accelerator based on comb-type forming lines technique was proposed. The investigation of repetitive operation of the accelerator was carried out. The comb-type forming line had a slow-wave structure which could lengthen the output pulse width, and it was charged by an external pulse transformer. Firstly, theoretical analyses about dispersion relation are introduced. Secondly, the PSpice circuit is built by the L-C network and it is simulated. A CST model is also built, which allows for a straightforward coupling of EM simulation and circuit simulation. Finally, the compact high-voltage pulsed accelerator has been experimentally tested and verified. A single operation output pulse width of 64 ns and 200kV is obtained and this result is higher by a factor of 1.8 than that of a same-size smooth coaxial forming line. In repetitive operation, across a 40 resistive dummy load, it can steadily operate at a 400kV output voltage in 40Hz rep-rate with 50ns pulse width. The experimental results are in good accordance with the numerical simulation. The forming line was filled with propylene carbonate, and the shell had an inner diameter of 40cm and a length of 80 cm. The comb-type pulse forming line has an inner diameter of 10cm, a length of 67 cm and an impedance of 8 .
