Very large X-ray facilities including Synchrotron Radiation and X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFEL) are currently used to study the material properties under extreme conditions with excellent spatial resolution. Up to now, most high pressure researches are based on traditional static techniques such as Diamond Anvil Cell (DAC), still unable to achieve extremely high pressure (e.g. TPa). And this level of high pressure could only be obtained by means of dynamic compression techniques such as high power laser facilities and gas gun, etc. Furthermore, to capture the transient extreme state generated by the dynamic loading, ultrafast X-ray diagnostics with high spatial resolution are needed.
This talk will give an introduction to the proposed Structural Dynamic Beamline (SDB) of High Energy Photon Source, a so-called 4th generation Synchrotron Radiation that will break ground at June, 2019, in Beijing. The beamline will focus on the ultrafast detection of the irreversible processes upon dynamic compression, providing a promising pathway for high pressure physics research.
