基于微信平台的大学英语视听续说教学方法研究

本研究结合 “续理论”(王初明2016,2017),阐述了视听说教学的新途径——视听续说,即抹去原声视频材料的结尾,让学生观看截取的视频,在理解的基础上续说,补全内容。为弥补课堂教学的不足,我们将移动语言学习(Mobile Assisted Language Learning)的理念嵌入英语视听续说教学,利用移动社交APP微信的公众号、群组、语音消息等功能,在微信平台开展视听续说练习和教师、同伴口语反馈。本研究以35名中级英语学习者为对象,通过调查问卷、访谈和案例分析方法,研究结果发现学生普遍接受并认可基于微信平台的视听续说教学方法,并且印证了该教学方法能有效提高学生的口语表达能力。视听续说任务将语言使用融入情景语境中,将视听材料和口语产出紧密结合,使理解和产出无缝对接,是提高外语运用能力和学习效率的有效方法;而利用微信平台开展视听续说教学活动能够将课堂延伸至课外,促进师生之间、同伴之间的交流互动,为英语听说教学提供了新的思路和方法。

Abstract:
Based on the theory that “language is successfully learned through extension” (Wang 2016), the present study explored the video-based oral extension tasks, where students were instructed to extend the stories according to the video clips they had watched. To compensate for the time and space constraints of classroom teaching, students were asked to record their stories using the voice messaging function of WeChat and then send the recordings directly to WeChat groups. Afterwards, each student would receive teacher and peer feedback on their oral production. A total of 35 Chinese students were recruited for the study. They were studying in one intermediate-level teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) class during one 16-week semester at a university in China. By collecting data from questionnaires, interviews, and case analysis, the study found students’ positive attitudes toward the video-based oral extension task via WeChat, and confirmed its facilitative role in enhancing students’ listening and speaking abilities. It is suggested that educators could combine extension tasks with mobile assisted language learning methods to enable EFL learners to engage more actively in learning activities outside of class.
