Mine water supply network is of great significance for proper and safe production in underground coal mines, satisfying the water demand for dust prevention, fire control and emergency rescue. However, it is difficult to keep the water supply network always running with initially designed performance, because of its physically limited service life and ongoing mining activities. The variability of hydraulic characteristics may lead to insufficient water supply, and finally threaten health and safety of mine workers. This presents a research necessity to the operation status and susceptibility of mine water supply network. In this research, considering the special circumstance underground, a similitude method was proposed to build similarity model for the actual water supply network in one of Kailuan coal mines. This method was based on dimensional analysis in combination with continuum mechanics and Navier-Stokes equations. Simulations of the similarity model and the prototype network were performed by using the code EPANET developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Verification of the method was conducted by calculating the error of ratio of similitude for head difference, flow quantity and velocity. All of these errors were below 5%, indicating the accordance of the similarity model with the prototype network.
